Why were the 21st Maccabiah Games postponed?The main reason for the postponement of the Maccabiah was due to the Olympic Committee’s determination that the Olympic Games be postponed to the Summer of 2021, which would have clashed with the Maccabiah Games dates.

Where will the Maccabiah Games be held?The 21st Maccabiah Games will be held in Israel. Athletes will be accommodated in Haifa, Jerusalem, Netanya and Tel Aviv.

What are the dates of the Maccabiah Games in 2022?The games will take place from the 12th-26th July 2022

When does the Australian Team leave for Israel?The team leaves on Thursday 7th July 2022 for pre-camp

When does the Australian Team return?We will return on Thursday 28th July 2022

When and where is the opening ceremony?The opening will take place in Jerusalem on the 14th July 2022

When do nominations open?Nomination for management will open from July 2020 through to April 2021 (depending on the role). Nominations for athletes will open in November 2020 and close in April 2021

When are trials for athletes?Trials will be held from May 2021 onward (depending on the selected sport)

What if I’m unable to attend trials?Provision is made for athlete who are unable to attend trials

Do I have to be Jewish to compete at the Maccabiah Games?To compete at the Maccabiah athletes must be a child of a Jewish parent or a converted to Judaism by one of the recognized denominations of Judaism

Do I need to be an Australian citizen?Yes, or an Australian resident for a minimum of six (6) months prior to the games period

How can I support the team?A supporter’s program is being established to allow family, friends, Maccabi members and the community to join in the unique games experience and be a “part” of the team.

Is there a nomination fee?A nomination fee of $1000 applies for all athletes wishing to nominate. This fee is fully refundable (less credit card charges) if unsuccessful

What is the cost of participating in the Maccabiah games?The participation cost is yet to be finalised, but is estimated to be AU$13500. Cost includes flights, insurance, all land arrangements, and team uniform. The participation costs exclude team specific expenses e.g. trial costs, training camps, playing strip etc

Do I need to play for a Maccabi Club to nominate?No

What funding is available?Limited funding is available for Elite and Needs based athletes as per the Team Selection By-Laws
