Masters Athlete Report

It has been a very difficult time for all, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Judy, Susannah, and I have been thrilled with the positivity and commitment from our masters’ managers and coaches and the engagement from the athletes has been encouraging. For the very first time this century we are seeing capacity in two divisions of the tennis team, already numbering 26 players. It is exciting to be sending our first ever masters netball team, many of whom are moms of nominated junior players, recognising the incredible opportunities for families to compete together at the same games and enjoying a family experience. What could be better than marching into the opening ceremony and sharing that experience together?

Similarly, the masters’ footballers will be fielding teams in all age categories available, i.e.: 35+, 45+ and 55+. Australian expat athletes will gather from all around the world and outstanding coaches have been training hard when covid has permitted it, in preparation for the upcoming trials.

Golf is another sport where we are at capacity…. it is so exciting to see so many talented sportspeople, vying for a position on the team, working when they can to get their handicaps down to be the most competitive.

Our swimmers are now starting to get back into pools or are practising in the open water and thankfully the temperature is rising to make swims less hectic, and most have signed up to the MS Swimathon to help with their fundraising efforts.

All other sports are taking shape. Our zoom meetings have been informative and great questions have been asked and answered. We are excited for what the next few months have in store- training, trials, and qualifications sought.

The three of us are here to answer any questions and support you, our athletes in any way possible. We look forward to seeing you for uniform try-ons and at trials and eagerly await your managers to submit you for ratification so e can be one team …. With one dream!
